Freezer Meals – A fun, productive time with friends!

0

I admit, I always love the idea of planning meals ahead.  I search Pinterest, decide what night we are having what and make my shopping list.  I make it to the store, sometimes leaving that list on the counter, and buy the items.  The first night starts out as planned but then the next night, someone invites us out, followed by a night that I’m too tired to cook, then followed by I really don’t feel like any of these meal I planned for the week.  Half of the meals that I have planned don’t happen and we waste so much food!  That is why I love meals that I can prep and then freeze.  I love looking in the freezer and seeing bags of meals, all prepped that I just have to defrost and either throw in the oven or the crockpot!

My friends and I have turned freezer meal prepping into a fun girls day activity!

Follow the steps below and you will have a fun get together with your friends and your freezer will be stocked in no time!

Plan the day, time and location

We love group texts, via text we plan a day and someone volunteers that their house will be the meeting place!  We plan ours for when our children are at school or you can take turns and have one person watch the kiddos.

Everyone picks a recipe

Everyone picks a different recipe.  Pinterest is perfect for this!  We all try to choose recipes that appeal to families. We try to steer clear from anything too spicy or too funky because we know picky kids and picky husbands won’t go for those!  Make sure to share the recipe with the group to make sure everyone likes it and there are not any duplicate recipes.

Go Shopping

So once you decide on your recipe, go shopping for enough to make recipe for as many moms that will be participating.  It can be a pricey shopping trip but just think of all of the other meals you will be receiving on meal prep day!

Meal Prep Day!

Make sure to bring all your supplies with you!  You will need Ziplock Freezer bags to bag up everything.  Bring a sharpie marker so you can label the bags with what’s inside, as well as write the cooking instructions right onto the bag.  Bring all of the ingredients for your recipe.  Also, bring your favorite knife and make sure its sharp.  There will be lots of chopping! Then go recipe by recipe, prepping all of the ingredients and putting them into the bags which will then go into your freezer!

Freezer days with friends are fun and productive!  It removes the question of what am I going to make for dinner this week?  I love looking in my freezer, pulling out a prepped meal and being able to cook it after its defrosted!
