Finding Community in the Most Unexpected Place

My whole life I’ve wanted to be a stay at home mom. It’s just something that I knew I wanted to do from a very young age. My mom always had a home-based business which allowed to her to be there for every sport and school function.  I loved having my mom present while I grew up and it’s something I dreamed of being able to do it for my kids.  A lot of my friends had these huge career goals but my focus was never about that. I enjoyed learning about health in college (hence the health promotions degree), but I wasn’t sure how that was going to fit into my life as far as a career.  I knew that as soon as I had kids I wouldn’t want to leave them and work outside of the home.

I love being a stay at home but it’s very different than what I expected. I never realized how isolating motherhood can be at times. After you have a new baby it’s not very easy getting out of the house and your conversations can only go so far with a baby or toddler. I remember when my husband would come home from work and I would start talking a mile a minute because that was the first adult conversation I was having all day. I had great intentions of getting out of the house more but sometimes it just didn’t happen. By the time I started getting the hang of things and was able to get out more, then we added another little man to the mix and I felt like I was starting all over again.

I finally found that community I’ve been looking for and it showed up in the most unexpected place, Network Marketing. Now please don’t stop reading because you see that word. I’m not sure why so many people have this preconceived notion about multilevel marketing or direct sales but it’s a legitimate job and source of income for a lot of moms. It gives them the time freedom to be able to stay at home with their kids while bringing in a paycheck. And might I add a pretty substantial paycheck at that. Honestly in this day and age, because of social media, network marketing is brilliant.

When I first started out in network marketing I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s something I had never done before and everything was all new to me. But I quickly realized that this was exactly what I had been looking for ever since I became a mom. I am having conversations all day long with other moms. We are encouraging each other, building each other up and helping each other reach our goals.

The thing I love about network marketing is that it’s all about building relationships, it’s not about selling a product. I am not a sales person, I’ve never been good at that sort of things but I’m great at sharing about something that has completely changed my family’s life. I’m great at talking with other women and being there to support them. I love that every single day I am reaching out to friends and reconnecting with them for the soul purpose of catching up. I love that I am challenging myself to make to new friends and step out of my comfort zone.

Every time I leave the house I try to make one new friend. This wasn’t always the case though. It’s really nerve wracking for me to introduce myself and make new mom friends but I am growing and challenging myself to do things that seem a little scary.

Motherhood doesn’t have to be isolating. There are women all over the world who want to connect and encourage you!! The beautiful thing about social media is that it gives us the tools to meet new friends and get to know new people.  When you find people with like-minded visions it pushes you, grows you and keeps you accountable! I challenge you all to find a group of people who are going after the same things you are and run with them.
