Second Child Syndrome

We have all heard the jokes, heard the “just you wait” and we all say, “oh it will never happen to me …. not my kid.”

That’s exactly how I felt about the dreaded jealousy between my two boys. How could my oldest son be jealous of his baby brother he so desperately wanted?!

All my girlfriends were having problems with their kids as soon as they got pregnant…. mine never said or did anything malicious towards me or the baby….until now. Now that the baby is able to walk and say a few words; now he is starting to “do tricks” if you will and I notice a huge difference in my older ones behavior. He is so much more clingy then he has ever been. He says those heart wrenching phrases like “you don’t love me.” (Insert heartbreak emoji )

I was so sad that he is now having a hard time. However, everyone tried to warn me. How did I really expect him not to get jealous? He’s had my attention and every ounce of my energy all to himself for the last three and a half years.

So my way of creating balance between our old life and our new one is taking him on special dates JUST US.
For our date, I took him down to Miami for a pop up Museum of Ice Cream! We made memories together just he and I; and when we got home we both embraced his brother and he said he missed him!

So that makes me feel better about the situation and I think it is a great way to get back to him and me time. Because let’s face it babies are Mom hogs and they can’t help but be.

If anyone else has any other tips please feel free to send them my way! I want these brothers to continue to love each other and be very close with a dash healthy competition 🙂
