Love Where You Live: Royal Palm Beach

“A place you call home”

Born and raised here in Royal Palm Beach, I can definitely agree with the new slogan (above) that the Village of Royal Palm Beach announced earlier this year during their 60th anniversary.

While our once small village has definitely expanded and grown, there are still many amenities, events, and locales that give it that “hometown” feel.

Located centrally in Palm Beach County, and less than 15 miles west of the beach, there’s easy access to West Palm, Boca, Jupiter, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. And if you’re like my family and love to visit ‘the mouse,’ hopping on the turnpike makes trips to Orlando easy and quick.

With over 20 community parks Royal Palm offers more than just housing, and has even been named a Tree City USA Community for 29 years!

Royal Palm’s Veterans Park has a splash fountain to cool off in during the summer, along with a playground, amphitheater, picnic pavilions, and shaded walking paths. With several other community parks, playgrounds, and dog parks, it’s easy to enjoy all the south Florida weather all year long.

But the crown jewel of the Royal Palm Beach Parks and Recreation department is Commons Park. Covering 163 acres this park boasts 2-age appropriate playgrounds, a splash pad, sand volleyball courts, 20-picnic pavilions, driving range, 3 miles of paved walking/jogging/biking paths, fishing docks, 3-story banquet space, dog park, and more. Whether it’s a birthday party, play date, or just a family outing, this former golf course, turned park is beautiful escape from the concrete jungle.

If you’re looking for more organized athletics then check out the many youth and adult sports and leagues offered through the Village. From soccer tots and dance, to basketball and tennis, there are plenty of choices. Or if you’re into the latest craze, try pickleball . . . don’t worry, no real pickles are involved.

One of the biggest reasons I’ve chosen to return to my hometown, with my husband and daughter, is the sense of community. And that really starts and ends with all of the great events the Village of Royal Palm puts on throughout the year! Come check out some of the great events happening soon:

Movie Night and Gourmet Truck Expo – Friday, December 13th from 5-9:30 PM at Can mind Park (the movie is The Grinch)

Royal Palm Beach Winter Fest – Saturday, December 7th from 1-9 PM at Commons Park (skating rink, snow slide, kids fun zone, food trucks, photos with Santa, tree lighting and fireworks, and more)

Royal Palm Beach Green Market and Bazaar – Saturdays from 9-1 PM on the corner of Okeechobee Blvd and Royal Palm Beach Blvd

If you’re looking for additional activities with the kids you can always check out Calypso Bay waterpark during the summer, take a drive just west to visit Lion Country Safari, visit the Winter Equestrian Festival next door in Wellington, stop by the South Florida Fair in January, or go to a concert at Coral Sky Amphitheater. And I can’t forget the Regal Cinemas in Royal Palm. If you are looking for a comfortable movie viewing experience you must check out their reclining chairs with swing tables.

After a trip to the movies stop by Mario the Baker. This Royal Palm institution makes the best pizza and chicken parmigiana out there! For some home cooking or Sunday brunch make sure to visit Butterfield’s Southern Cafe. They also offer multiple “kids eat free” days! Or if you’re craving wings and BBQ you’ve got to check out Tree’s Wings and Ribs. For dessert try Royal Palm Ice CreamJupiter Donuts, or Infusion: A Rollin Creamery (handmade rolled ice cream). And for an adult outing try Royal Palm Brewing Company for some great, and LOCAL, craft beers.

I hope to see you around Royal Palm!
