Summer is in full swing here in South Florida; with this comes Florida’s rainy season, mosquitos, and days that are as hot as a pre-heated oven. Pools and other water activities are a must. However, it’s always a great idea to have a variety of places to take your kids INSIDE. One of my favorite places to go is our local library branch.
The Palm Beach County Libraries are a great place to take your little and big kids for a day of fun. From story-times, special events aimed at families, and good old fashion book check-outs to help with summer reading, the library has so many options for fun!
This summer, my boys and I will be enjoying weekly story times. What’s great about these is they always have fun stories, activities and themes for the week. A magician show is traveling from branch to branch this summer; my boys are especially excited to see what that show will be about! Our whole family can’t wait for the library’s “Harry Potter” night at their Lantana Branch on June 24th. A variety of events and programs can be found on the library’s website.
A trip to the downtown West Palm Beach branch puts you close to the downtown fountains. You can take the kids on the trolley that goes from Clematis Street to City Place. Pack a picnic and it is the perfect afternoon for the kids.
With our oldest going into kindergarten, reading is a huge part of our summer. We will be taking part of the library’s summer Reading program. All ages are encouraged to explore ways to “Build a Better World.” You can sign up at any Palm Beach County Library System location from Monday, June 5th until Friday, July 28th and begin earning and tracking points. This is a great way for your family to enjoy reading together and earn fun rewards at the end of summer.
Being an avid reader since I was a young girl, I love sharing reading with my children. A great new way for us mommies to continue our own love for reading is utilizing the library’s Overdrive App. Once you have your library card, downloading this App gives you thousands of e-books right at your fingertips! While I love the feel of a real book, it’s nice to be able to read on my tablet and just press a button to return the book!
